Brief / Theme

Define a vision in which spaces around and within the new working program can be better places for both direct users and nearby community. Illustrate this through a design for a specified territory (see attached plan scheme below).

This generic piece of land that measures 2.031 ha is situated in a European city, has in the Southern part access to public transportation (underground type) and is bordered in the Western part by light transportation.

The theme invites participants to insert in the given generic land office buildings, spaces for community, parks, infrastructure, all connected in a new vision that is buildable in 2031.

Best designs will be virtually featured at the High Tech Learning Center of “Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning Bucharest that offers an advanced Visualization Lab.

Competition Rules

Language

English is the official language.

Eligibility

2031 NOW is an international competition open to students in planning, architecture and design enrolled in a Bachelor or Master Program, in 2021-2022 academic year, in any specialized Faculty, Institute or University from Poland or Romania.

Anonymity

Each participant will fill in an online registration form.

The submitted files MUST NOT contain identifying information. There should be NO student name in the uploaded files.

Each project participant / entry will fill in:

In case of team projects, only one student may upload the project on the competition platform.

This concludes the registration procedure.

The students will NOT receive confirmation of their registration by email. The simple upload process on the platform will confirm successful registration by displaying a screen message.

Notes

Prizes

A total amount of €11,000:

The International Jury is entitled to distribute differently the total amount of prizes according to evaluation and final jury report.

Prizes will be awarded only if there are more than 15 competing entries.

Where is the competition site?

No specific site has been selected for this competition. However, there are clear conditions to an imaginary / generic site: a piece of land that measures 2,031 ha, situated in a European city, access to public transportation (underground type) in the Southern part and bordered in the Western part by light transportation.

Can I submit a previously submitted project?

You may submit a previously submitted design concept as long as you are the author and the project presentation materials are original and have not been published or made public before.

Would it be possible to design housing buildings too?

For the 2031 Now_our cities in 10 years architecture competition, participants are asked to submit designs for a better city. Housing is a key ingredient and you are invited to envision and propose all the urban facilities that you find relevant to the city of the nearby future. 

Can one participant / team submit multiple proposals?

Yes. Once you create an account you can submit multiple projects.

Will you publish the best projects in any international architectural resources/websites/blogs, if so which are they?

Yes, we are in the process of negotiating with multiple international industry-related media representatives. The list of media partners is constantly updated on our website, please check it regularly to find the latest updates.
